The moon rises constant and eternal over the dried bed of the Aral Sea during blue hour, when the sky shifts from day to night in perfect gradient. The geological formations emerging from the desiccated seabed catch the last warm light while the moon provides cool counterpoint.
The moon remains predictable, rising each night as it always has. The Earth beneath it has changed catastrophically.
People thought the sea would always be there and they depended on it. The climate depended on it.
Now it is gone. That kind of change, caused by humans, is complicated to even fathom. This is chasing light to document loss, beauty intertwined with tragedy.
