Selling the Photography: Two Tiers, Two Routes
How Planet 5 gets Dirk Collins' preservation photography bought and placed in luxury hospitality, corporate spaces and serious private collections. The signature numbered editions go to photography dealers. The archive goes to hospitality and corporate art consultants. Alongside both, Planet 5 builds its own trade layer and recruits a dedicated rep.
Three findings that reshape the plan
Two tiers, two buyers
The July plan pitched one body of work to general art consultants, who mostly want paintings and emerging artists. Splitting the work fixes that. Numbered signature editions go to dealers who only sell photography. The archive goes to firms that fill hotels and offices.
Dealers need an introduction
Fahey/Klein, Holden Luntz and Gilman Contemporary each state on their sites that they do not accept unsolicited submissions. photo-eye takes portfolios only in person in Santa Fe. The way in is a warm introduction or a meeting at a photography fair, never a cold portfolio email.
Old details were out of date
Artelier has moved its UK office, and TKOart is now based in Irvine rather than Los Angeles. The contact names listed for TKOart in July do not appear on its site. Every contact below was rechecked today, and anything not published is marked as such.
Which work goes where
Signature tier
- The work
- Fifth Element: five single museum-quality editions, $18,000 to $35,000 each. Numbered limited collections: Guardians of the Wild, Water Towers of the World, Higher Grounds, Majestic Beauty, Wild Serenity.
- Who buys it
- Photography dealers, their collectors, and corporate collections that buy important work for a lobby, boardroom or executive floor.
- How to pitch it
- As collectible fine art photography by an Emmy-nominated filmmaker with thirty years across seven continents. Scarcity, provenance and the preservation story lead.
- Never
- Show a dealer the archive pricing or the Guardian discounts in the same conversation.
Archive tier
- The work
- Forces of Nature, Chasing Light, Essential Majesty, Into the Unknown, Human Element.
- Who buys it
- Hospitality and corporate art consultants, hotel design firms and procurement teams filling guest rooms, corridors, spas and offices.
- How to pitch it
- As a deep, repeatable archive from real expeditions, with the preservation give-back as a guest-facing story a hotel can tell.
- Never
- License signature-tier images into this channel. Keep the two catalogs separate.
The partners, by tier
Each card shows what the firm is, the evidence it fits, current contact details and the realistic way in. Verified means confirmed on the firm's own site today. Suggestion means our recommendation, not a published fact.
Signature tier: photography dealers
All six sell photography first. None take cold submissions. Why it fits Verified
A dedicated corporate service curates collections from vision statement to installation. Corporate clients include Loews Hotels, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Delta, Microsoft, Chanel and Morgan Stanley. The gallery works directly with consultants and designers, which makes it the clearest proof that a photography dealer can place work in hospitality.

Planet 5's own trade engine
The live gallery already has the collections, editioning, pricing, checkout, View in a Room and the Guardian give-back. What is missing is a trade layer and one person who sells it.
Split and gate the pricing
Guardian discounts of 10 to 25% are public on the gallery page. A rep or dealer cannot work against a discount any designer can sign up for.
- A gated To the Trade tier with net pricing, resale certificates and tax-exempt ordering
- Separate signature and archive catalogs, each with its own spec sheet: sizes, substrates, editioning, lead times, hospitality options such as acrylic glazing and fire rating
- Project pricing for multi-room and multi-property installs, and a sample program
Recruit the rep
Someone who already has luxury hospitality, FF&E and procurement relationships and adds Planet 5 to their line. Ideally West-based or connected in eco-luxury and adventure travel.
Where to find them
- BDNY, November 8 to 9, 2026, Javits Center, New York Verified. The boutique hotel design fair, with art among its product categories.
- The Photography Show presented by AIPAD, Park Avenue Armory, New York, spring 2027. Dates not yet announced. The best single place to meet signature-tier dealers in person.
- Design centers such as Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, and LinkedIn titles: art consultant, FF&E designer, hospitality art sales
- Former consultants from the firms above who now freelance
How to pay them Suggestion
| Deal type | Suggested rate | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Rep-sourced sale | 15 to 20% of collected revenue | Their relationship and their close |
| Warm lead from Planet 5 or Dirk | 10 to 12% | Lead did not come from the rep |
| Ramp option | Small retainer plus 10 to 15% | Covers the pipeline-building months |
Pay on collected, not booked, revenue. Keep production in-house.
Why these are not on the list
What to do first
Gate the pricing before any outreach
Separate the signature and archive catalogs and put trade pricing behind a login, so no partner is undercut by the public site.
Dirk opens the dealer doors
Ask his network for introductions to Jackson Fine Art, Peter Fetterman, Fahey/Klein and Gilman Contemporary. The two Los Angeles galleries can be visited in person.
Offer the archive to Artelier now
Lead with Six Senses Courchevel as the mountain proof point. Ask Saatchi Advisory whether they source outside their marketplace before listing anything.
Scout for the rep at BDNY
November 8 to 9 in New York, six weeks out. Then plan for The Photography Show in spring 2027.
